What is a Chest Infection?
A chest infection, such as pneumonia or bronchitis, occurs when the lungs or airways are infected, leading to inflammation and difficulty breathing.
Causes of Chest Infection:
- Bacterial infections: Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
- Viral infections: Influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), or COVID-19
- Fungal infections: In rare cases
- Smoking or lung conditions: COPD or asthma increase susceptibility
